Tapered Flange Beams
Overview
Structural steel tapered flange beams are similar to the “I” shape of universal beams, however they have tapered flanges. This vertical middle section of the beam is commonly known as a “web”, with the horizontal portion being called a “flange”. The vertical section, or the “web” is substantially longer than the horizontal, or “flange” portion. Tapered flange beams are the choice shape for structural steel builds due to their high functionality.
Tapered Flange Beams may also be referred to as “I beams” or “Rolled Steel Joists”. Tapered Flange Beams are regularly used for support in residential and commercial construction projects or in industrial applications where maximal strength is paramount.
Steelforce have a range of Tapered Flange beams in a variety of sizes from 100 TFB to 125 TFB, standard lengths are 9m and 12m. Our tapered flange beams are manufactured in Australia from 300PLUS steel and exceed the minimum requirements of AS/NZS 3679.1
